Access to Health Services

Overview
We work to ensure timely, affordable, and quality healthcare for children, women, and vulnerable populations by strengthening primary health care, maternal and child health services, community outreach, and strengthening  referral systems available.   Improving Access to Quality, Community‑Centered Health Services GPF has worked closely with communities and local health structures to ensure that children, women, and vulnerable populations can access timely, affordable, and quality healthcare. Our health interventions have focused on bridging gaps between communities and health facilities, while strengthening both demand for and delivery of essential services. Over the years, GPF has supported:
Primary healthcare services by working with health facilities to improve outpatient care, maternal services, and basic medical supplies.
Maternal, newborn, and child health (MNCH) through antenatal and postnatal engagement, immunization awareness, growth monitoring, and referral support.
Community health outreach by collaborating with Village Health Teams (VHTs) to deliver health education, home visits, and disease prevention messages.
Referral and emergency support for patients—particularly pregnant women and children—who require timely access to higher‑level care.
Through these efforts, GPF has contributed to improved health‑seeking behavior, reduced preventable illness, and stronger linkages between households and health facilities. Our approach places communities at the center, ensuring health services are trusted, inclusive, and responsive to local needs.

How we work?

1. Strengthening Primary Health Care
We ensure that essential health services are available and accessible at community and facility levels by:
• Supporting health facilities with supplies, equipment, and staffing
• Improving outpatient care, maternal and newborn services
• Enhancing health information systems and patient record management
• Providing outreach clinics in hard-to-reach areas
Strong primary care systems save lives and reduce long-term health risks.

2. Expanding Access to Maternal, Newborn, and Child Health (MNCH)
We focus on protecting mothers and children through:
• Antenatal and postnatal care
• Safe delivery support and skilled birth attendance
• Newborn care and growth monitoring
• Immunization campaigns and nutrition screening
Healthy mothers and healthy children build healthier communities.

3. Promoting Sexual and Reproductive Health (SRH)
We empower adolescents, youth, and adults with the knowledge and services they need to make informed choices.
Our work includes:
• Family planning and contraception services
• Youth-friendly corners and counseling
• Menstrual health and hygiene education
• Prevention and treatment of sexually transmitted infections
Access to SRH services improves wellbeing and advances gender equality.

4. Community Health Outreach and Education
We take health services directly to communities by:
• Conducting mobile clinics and outreach camps
• Training Village Health Teams (VHTs)
• Providing door-to-door visits for health awareness
• Sharing health information through local radio, schools, and community groups
This helps reach households that may otherwise miss essential care.

5. Strengthening Referral and Emergency Care Systems
To ensure timely treatment, we support:
• Functional referral pathways between communities and health facilities
• Ambulance and transport support for emergencies
• Training frontline workers on emergency response
• Coordination with district health authorities
Effective referrals save lives—especially for pregnant women and children.

6. Improving Access for the Most Vulnerable
We prioritize groups that often face discrimination or barriers to care, including:
• Refugees and host communities
• Women and girls
• Persons with disabilities
• Older persons and those with chronic illnesses
We make services safer, more respectful, and more inclusive.
