Access to Quality and Equitable Education

Overview

We support safe, inclusive, and high‑quality education by increasing school access, strengthening teaching quality, protecting children from harm, and providing alternative learning pathways for children and youth who have missed schooling.   Education has been a central pillar of GPF’s work, driven by the conviction that every child has the right to learn in a safe and supportive environment. In contexts affected by poverty, displacement, and disruption, GPF has worked to remove barriers that prevent children and youth from accessing and staying in school. In past and ongoing interventions, GPF has:
Supported school access and retention by addressing practical barriers such as learning materials, school readiness, and community engagement.
Strengthened safe and inclusive learning environments by integrating child protection and safeguarding measures into education activities.
Worked with teachers and school staff to promote child‑centered, inclusive teaching approaches and positive discipline.
Supported alternative and accelerated learning opportunities for children and youth who had missed schooling due to displacement, economic hardship, or crisis.
Engaged parents, caregivers, and community leaders to strengthen school governance and promote the value of education—especially for girls.
These efforts have helped increase school participation, improve learner wellbeing, and support children and youth to rebuild learning pathways disrupted by hardship. By linking education with protection, health, and livelihoods, GPF ensures education systems contribute to long‑term resilience and opportunity.

How we work?

1. Increasing Enrollment and Retention
We help children access and stay in school by addressing the challenges that keep them out of the classroom.
Our efforts include:
• Community mobilization and back to school campaigns
• Providing scholastic materials, uniforms, and learning supplies
• Supporting school feeding and WASH programs
• Addressing harmful social norms that limit children’s education

2. Improving Teaching and Learning
High quality education starts with empowered teachers and effective classroom practices.
We support:
• Training teachers in learner-centered, inclusive, and protective methods
• Providing teaching aids and classroom materials
• Strengthening early grade literacy and numeracy programs
• Coaching and mentorship for teachers and school leaders

3. Creating Safe and Inclusive Learning Environments
Children learn best when they feel protected and valued.
We help create safer schools through:
• Child safeguarding and child protection systems
• Anti-bullying and violence prevention programs
• Inclusive education for children with disabilities
• Gender-responsive education initiatives

4. Supporting Alternative and Accelerated Learning
For children who have missed years of schooling—especially in conflict, displacement, or poverty-we offer flexible pathways to learning:
• Accelerated Education Programs (AEP)
• Remedial and catch up classes
• Community learning groups and non formal opportunities
• Skills-based education for youth

5. Strengthening Education Systems
Sustainable access to quality education requires strong systems and leadership.
We work with partners to:
• Support school management and governance structures
• Strengthen data systems for monitoring learning and attendance
• Build capacity of district and national education authorities
• Align programs with national policies and global education standards
